Asbestos Awareness Week – Be Aware of Asbestos Hazards

Asbestos Awareness Week - Be Aware of Asbestos Hazards Released on April 1, 2025 April 1-7 is Global Asbestos Awareness Week. This is an important time to raise awareness about the dangers of asbestos in the workplace. "Work related asbestos diseases can be prevented if you are aware of where it is located in a building and how to properly handle it to avoid exposure to its fibers," Labour Relations and Workplace Safety Minister Jim Reiter said. Asbestos is a naturally occurring fibrous material that was regularly used in buildings until the late 1990s. If products containing asbestos are disturbed, the tiny fibres are released into the air. When they are breathed in, they can become trapped in the lungs and stay there for many years. Over time, these fibres can accumulate and lead to serious health problems. In the 2024-25 Provincial Budget, $230,000 in funding was provided to replace [...]

Rewarding Construction Safety

WorkSafe Rewards Construction Safety This fall, WorkSafe Saskatchewan, in partnership with the Saskatchewan Construction Safety Association (SCSA), is sending a team around the province looking for residential construction crews who are committed to safety. Show us your fall protection in action and WorkSafe Sask might stop by with coffee and donuts for the crew. And, when your team wears full personal protective equipment (PPE) and fall protection, they could win gear. We will also recognize the crew for being safe on our social media channels and on radio. Want to be rewarded? Share a photo with us of your crew using their fall protection and protective equipment on the job site through social media. Always remember to wear your fall protection and protective equipment on the job site to eliminate injuries and fatalities. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Wearing protective equipment is your last line of [...]

Saskatchewan Safety Survey

Saskatchewan Safety Survey   Since 2012, WorkSafe Saskatchewan has partnered with the Centre for Management Development (CMD) at the University of Regina to offer  Saskatchewan businesses a free safety report. To date over 150 private and public sector organizations have received a confidential safety culture report and, if requested, information on employee turnover and employee engagement. These reports provide organizations with insight into their safety performance relative to their peers in the province. Organizations interested in receiving a benchmarking report should contact Sean Tucker at sean.tucker@uregina.ca or 306.337.3244. To ensure that the Saskatchewan Health and Safety Leadership Charter is meeting the needs of participating organizations and is serving its intended purpose, an evaluation of the program was undertaken by the CMD. The project also examined the impact of organizational leadership on safety. A copy of the project's full report can be found below. SK Leadership Charter Project Final Report
