WorkSafe Saskatchewan announces 2021 Safe Worker and Safe Employer Award winners

Regina, Sask., May 31, 2021 – On May 25, 2021, WorkSafe Saskatchewan, the partnership between the Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) and the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety, announced the winners of the 2021 Safe Worker and Safe Employer Awards.

Each year, WorkSafe Saskatchewan presents the Safe Worker Award to a worker who goes beyond the expectations of their position to help create a safer workplace. This award aims to recognize workers that model innovative and successful safety practices in their workplace. In many situations, the winners are not in formal leadership roles, but have taken the opportunity to become safety leaders in their workplace. The 2021 WorkSafe Saskatchewan Safe Worker Award winner is Audrey MacMurchy, Kingston Midstream Limited, Estevan, Sask.

The Safe Employer Award is presented to a best practice employer who builds safety into every task. This award recognizes employers who place a heavy emphasis on safety and make it a key part of their operations. Winners do not view safety as an inconvenient requirement, but rather as an exciting opportunity to share new safety ideas and concepts with their staff, ensuring that everyone within the organization plays their part in promoting a safe work environment. The 2021 Safe Employer Award winner is Triple A Directional Drilling Ltd., Yorkton, Sask.

“The Safe Worker and Safe Employer Awards are a very important program for the WCB and WorkSafe Saskatchewan” said Annette Goski, the WCB’s director of prevention. “Each year, we are always excited to see the new and innovative ways companies and their employees are keeping safety top of mind. We hope that by recognizing their success, we can provide motivation to others throughout the province.”

Workplace peers and colleagues nominate the recipients of these awards. Two committees representing WorkSafe Saskatchewan, the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour, the Saskatchewan Safety Council and the Canadian Society of Safety Engineers adjudicate the nominations.

“Our ultimate goal is to achieve Mission Zero. The steps that each individual worker and the employers throughout Saskatchewan take to improve safety in their place of work, brings the whole province a little closer to that goal.” said Goski. “Congratulations to the winners. Together, we can continue to strive for Mission Zero.”
