Winners of 2011 Youth Video Contest

2011 Winners announced

WorkSafe Saskatchewan invited high school students from the province to submit an original 3-minute video on workplace safety. Many high school students take summer jobs or work part-time throughout the year. The contest is an initiative by WorkSafe Saskatchewan to raise awareness and knowledge among youth about workplace health and safety issues.

A WorkSafe Saskatchewan committee adjudicated nominations based on the students’ creativity and originality in story development, production value, video effects and the video’s overall workplace health and safety message.

The 2011 Youth Video Contest Award winners were:

First place: A WorkSafe Dream by Katie Cotter and Keyanna Burgher, teacher Ms. Debbie Burgher (Grade 12, Vanier Collegiate, Moose Jaw)

Second place: Safety in the Workplace by Taylor Currie, Bodie Robinson and Tallon Ruston, teacher Mr. Mark Selinger (Grades 11 and 12, Vanier Collegiate, Moose Jaw)

Third place: Working Safe by Dakota German, teacher Mr. Trent Senger (Grade 12, Sacred Heart High School, Yorkton)

Tim Kalynchuk, Youth Coordinator, Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB), and Vicki Pappas, Education Consultant, Labour Relations and Workplace Safety (LRWS) presented the awards to the Vanier Collegiate students on June 9, 2011. The third-place award will be presented in Yorkton on Tuesday, June 21.
